Riwaka School
Founded in 1848, Riwaka School is the fourth oldest school in New Zealand. We are dedicated towards meeting the current and future needs of students. Our vision is to enable students to confidently and competently paddle their own waka.
We believe that as well as relationship skills, life skills and an understanding of what promotes health and well-being, the future will demand people who are flexible, adaptable, able to cope with rapid change, and work at assimilating new skills to solve existing or new problems.
Our curriculum emphasises foundation knowledge in literacy and numeracy, problem solving skills, the integration of digital technologies, real world contexts for learning, opportunities for students to collaborate, create and connect with others in the school and wider community, involvement in physical activity and the arts.
Other programme features include:
- A1 Quality standards
- Values education
- Extension opportunities for gifted and talented students
- Individual learning support
- Second language learning for years 7 and 8 students
- Kapahaka opportunities
