Harakeke Preschool
Harakeke Preschool (the place 4325 year olds) is a privately owned Early Childhood Education Centre for 3 to 5 year old children situated between Motueka and Upper Moutere in the idyllic countryside of the Tasman District.
Harakeke is the name given to the native New Zealand lily by Maori. The first European settlers called it 'Flax'. For us it's a symbol of family, community, nurturing and learning together.
Our Philosophy
Harakeke will provide for families and their children a safe, friendly and nurturing environment.
Skilled teachers/educators will focus on the holistic development of each child by supporting their individual learning journey. Harakeke will provide an environment where children's sense of wonder and delight is kept alive.
Our Vision
Harakeke's vision is to emphasise the value of the family, the homeliness of our centre and the richness of our natural surroundings.
We will share with parents the vital role of nurturing and educating the children in our care through the development of trust, security and loving relationships.
We will provide experiences which will encourage the social, emotional, cognitive, physical and aesthetic development of the individual child.
Our Natural Environment
Harakeke's outstanding natural environment provides rich opportunity for physical development and learning.
Outdoor environments are essential for the development of physical skills, for building confidence, and for promoting independence as well as social and behavioural skills.
Outdoor environments increase motivation and concentration in children and boost self-esteem. The children at Harakeke develop an ecological awareness and an understanding of the importance of sustainability within a natural context.
