TALENTS (Tasman Area Local Exchange Network and Trading System) is Motueka's own local currency. It allows members to trade with each other without having to use money, through simply recording credits and debits on members accounts. No interest is charged. The "profits" do not go overseas but remain to fuel the energy of the area.

The value of our Talent is pegged to that of the staple free range egg (currently about 50c) rather than the fluctuating NZ dollar. Trading partners negotiate the value of their transactions.

On joining members enter their talents as 'offerings' and their 'wants' and use these lists to see what trades they would like to negotiate. You can read more about how it works in a news article on this website here »
