Supporting Families in Mental Illness

SF Nelson Supporting Families in Mental Illness is a branch of Supporting Families NZ, formerly called Schizophrenia Fellowship (N.Z.) Inc. which was formed in 1977. SF Nelson have a Motueka based fieldworker, Trish Goulter, working from the Community House on Decks Reserve.

We provide information, resources, education, advocacy, social and educational support groups, referral to other services, and newsletters.

Trish can provide families with information about mental illnesses, treatment options, accommodation, medications, the mental health act, and consumer, family and whanau rights or can simply provide a listening ear. She can arrange to meet with you at our office, in your home or another convenient place, and she is available for support on the phone. She also facilitates regular monthly Carers peer support groups.

Although we still support families who have Schizophrenia, we also support those dealing with other serious mental health problems. We offer a confidential, professional service; providing support education and advocacy.

Our mission is: “The best possible quality of life for people with a major mental illness, and their family, whanau and carers”.

Our fieldworker Trish Goulter is in her Decks Reserve office and open Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 2pm. However she is flexible if a family needs her at another time. She may be out and about so it is best to call to make an appointment.

You can phone her at or email
