Cycling mob adds Sunday rides to its calendar
September 19th, 2014
The Thursday morning cycling group has become so popular that the organiser Ian Miller is trying to also get a Sunday morning group going.
Ian says that over winter about 15, and sometimes more, people were turning up for a ride every Thursday morning.
"As far as I can tell there are now about 100 people loosely associated with the group. Some turn up from time to time and others are more regular.
"We lost a few members because they got a job or had other commitments that prevented them from turning up on Thursdays.
So starting this Sunday I am trying to get a Sunday morning group going. It will take the same format - rides no more than 40km but most often a bit less.
"It's no-pressure social cycling with stops along the way, and I'm hoping that a few people without much experience will turn up and become regulars. Shorter rides can be arranged for people new to cycling."
All rides are local, though the mob occasionally takes their bikes out of town by car to ride around in areas such as Brightwater. Thursday riders can also do the Sunday ride if they wish.
If people want to take part on a Sunday morning all they need to do is turn up to the car park by the TDC offices in Hickmott Street at 10am, or they can email Ian at .
The mob has its own website with photos of recent trips and information about upcoming rides. A weekly email is also sent out letting riders know where the ride will be the next Sunday.
