Flooring Xtra donates materials, labour for pool

[by David Armstrong]

Motueka's Flooring Xtra has made the first 'in-kind' donation of materials and labour for the construction of the indoor Motueka Community Swimming Pool.

The company has written a formal commitment to the pool fundraising committee to supply and install free of charge carpet in the pool's reception area and storeroom, and vinyl to the changing rooms, showers and toilets.

Flooring Xtra owners Bob and Kylie Spence say they are pleased to be able to help in this way, and that they are available for consultation on various other aspects of construction of the building's wet areas.

"We see this as a great opportunity and we are pleased to be able to support the community and in this way," says Kylie.

"With this project we will be helping a cross section of people in the area."

To the fundraising committee, they say, "Good luck with your continued drive to make this happen for Motueka, and thank you to all those who are also contributing in time or any other way."

The pool committee chairman Fred Hickling says this significant donation is a great boost for the fund-raising effort.

"In-kind donations for construction goods and services help us reach our project target, and help enormously when we apply to external funding agencies," he says.

Fred and his team are discussing in-kind donation options with several other local construction firms, in particular for electrical and plumbing work.
