Facebook group looks at youthful creative spaces

May 28th, 2015
[by David Armstrong]

The first product of the Motueka Youth Summit held on Monday has been born - a dynamic Facebook group called "".

The idea was spawned from discussion about how young people can initiate and organise activities and events in Motueka without having to rely on adults to run them. (See our earlier story.)

"This site is a rocket ship that is steered by the glorious Motueka youth," says the dynamic initiator of the group, Stephen Evans.

"It's a place for Motueka youth to generate creative and innovative ideas that can become regular fun and alternative events in Motueka to allow young people to gather in larger groups to express their creativity, identity and voice in and around Motueka in fun, varied and dynamic ways.

"It is also a place for all members of the community to enjoy, comment and share the expression and achievements of the diverse and talented youth of Motueka."

Anyone, young people and adults, can join the group (if they have a Facebook account), and adults can also support the group and their activities.

Because the idea arose in the Youth Summit, which was supported by Vision Motueka, the latter group is offering support initially. It is expected, however, that Motueka Youth Creative Spaces will become self-supporting under the Vision Motueka umbrella, in much the same way that the town's mural-painting group is.
