Motueka Online finalist at industry awards

June 10th, 2015

We are mightily chuffed to announce that Motueka Online has been chosen as one of five finalists in the annual Australasian Internet awards in the Community Websites category.

The Australia and New Zealand Internet Awards (ANZIAs) are run jointly by the two organisations that administer the internet in Australia (auDA) and New Zealand (InternetNZ).

The winners will be announced at an industry gala dinner in Auckland on August 27th, with a $AU2500 prize to be awarded.

There are 22 finalists up for awards in six categories, one of which is The Leonie Dunbar Memorial Award for Community Websites. This year ANZIA received the largest number of entries ever.

According to their website, the ANZIAs "recognise organisations, businesses and individuals who excel in delivering accessible, innovative, informative and secure resources to a diverse and wide community, on the Internet - both in Australia and New Zealand".

In the Leonie Dunbar Memorial Award for Community Websites category are three Kiwi sites:
- Motueka Online (under the banner of Vision Motueka Development Trust),
- Tamahere Forum (a township close to Hamilton, run by a long-time colleague of Motueka Online's editor),
- Number 8 Network (a sister site of Tamahere's, representing the rural area north-east of Hamilton),
and two Australian sites:
- Bathurst Community Website, and
- Oxley Residents' Association Website.

Tamahere Forum's editor Philippa Stevenson said it was wonderful that community websites are getting recognition. "It's particularly nice that I'm sharing the honour with two good friends who have also been serving their communities in the same way."

Motueka Online editor David Armstrong was not available for comment.
