Weather kind for 2014 Starlight Parade
November 29th, 2014
[by David Armstrong]
The weather stayed fine and sunny yesterday evening for the annual New World Starlight Parade down High Street, featuring the usual happy onlookers and colourful floats.
While Nelson experienced hail and rain a few hours earlier, Motueka was thankfully spared and apart from a cool breeze, hints of summer around the corner were apparent.
As white balloons handed out by Ray White Real Estate broke free and took to the skies, a good crowd gathered along the street from Pah Street to New World. A delightful new feature this year was two groups of RSE workers from Vanuatu and Samoa singing and chanting as they walked.
Earlier there was the usual entertainment and food down Wallace Street, while Captain Underpants kept entertained those who stayed on after Santa concluded the parade.
Our Town Motueka co-ordinator Julie Jacobson was the chief organiser, and Damien O'Connor MP judged the floats.
Photographers were busy catching the happy smiles of kids on the floats, and below are a sampling of those taken for this website.
