The Tasman Skatepark Tour returns to the region this January, with six competitions scheduled and over $5,000 of prizes on offer for the annual extreme sport festival.

"Tasman is fortunate to have six premiere skate parks spread across the district. Showcased by the extreme sport enthusiasts, skate parks are safe places, where young people can meet and make new friends, share experiences and become part of a like-minded community."

The Tour caters for skate, BMX and scooter competitors in an open jam formats with categories for junior grom, senior pro and open veteran categories. The Tour's championship leaderboard format has riders across all ages and disciplines compete for points at each of the respective heats.

Competitors will be vying for store vouchers and merchandise, generously provided by long standing Tour supporters and sponsors Cheapskates and Village Cycles.

Entries for the tour events are taken on the day. Helmets are now compulsory for all competitors. For more information, please contact Paul McConachie, Tasman District Council, .

Providing a musical backdrop to the thrills and skills of the competitors, will be DJ Mix Masta Mootree. The Tasman Skatepark Tour is a free community event. The Motueka heat will be held on Saturday 17th January from 2.00pm - 4.00pm, at the skate park in Old Wharf Road.
