Arts Council offers holiday programme for kids

September 23rd, 2014

The Motueka Arts Council is trying a new initiative to encourage young people into arts - a series of school holiday courses to introduce kids to various artistic skills.

The programme, to run from September 29th through to October 10th, will teach beginners' skills in a range of topics, with each workshop run by skilled members of the Arts Council, including Sandie Boyd, Shirley Frater, Shirley Wallace and Liz Hofmann.

Age ranges vary from 6 to 12 years, and costs are limited to $10 per workshop. Healthy refreshments (water and fruit) are available at all workshops and included in the price, as are all materials used.

Topics have been chosen to be of special interest to children, and can be achieved by small hands. The topics are:

  • Developing Drawing Skills
  • Flags and Pennant Bunting
  • Create a Felt Picture
  • Make a Collage From Your Felt Picture
  • Creating and Embellishing Felt Keepsakes
  • Crazy Crafts Using Recycled Materials
