Follow-up meeting planned for economic summit
September 18th, 2014
The positive vibe generated in Motueka by the successful economic summit three weeks ago (see our earlier story) continues with a public meeting next Wednesday to seek further ideas from businesses and the community.
The meeting, organised by Vision Motueka, will enable input from participants about how they see Motueka growing through to 2030, and then the opportunity for people to investigate project ideas that interest them in particular.
The meeting will be held at Memorial Hall on Wednesday, September 24th starting around 7.15pm. It will be facilitated by three local experts in conducting such community events, backpacker owner Chris Salt, architect Andrew Stephenson and futures consultant Steve Henry.
All those who participated in the original summit meeting ("Toward 2030: A Better Future For Motueka") have been invited directly, and the invitation also extends to business people who could not make the summit as well as anyone who wants to see Motueka become a stronger and more vibrant town over the next few decades.
Anecdotal observation and comment shows that the economic summit was widely appreciated and that as a result many people are thinking about how new ideas can be usefully explored and taken to project feasibility stage.
Many told the organisers that the summit was a great buzz, but that it was necessary to follow up with some sorts of mechanisms to explore ideas raised further, as well as hear of other ideas that were not raised by the speakers at the summit.
The business group Our Town Motueka is already gearing up for some projects which the summit highlighted that fall within its purview.
Vision Motueka asks that a gold coin koha be donated at the door to help pay for the Memorial Hall rental as well as the tea and coffee.
