Renewed push by schools for positive behaviour scheme
August 13th, 2014
The four Motueka schools running the local PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) programme are renewing a push to get businesses to sign up to the scheme and help encourage positive, respectful behaviour by their students.
The Motueka South, Lower Moutere, Parklands and Motueka High schools have been running the Community Congratulations Card initiative for nearly three years now (see our earlier story) but want to renew community interest as retail businesses change hands since then.
"For the past year or so, we have had a community volunteer from one of our local schools distributing supplies and we now understand that some businesses have been missing out, so we would like to sort that out," says scheme coordinator Linda Beatson.
"We are visiting interested local businesses to distribute new supplies of cards and also a poster that we've designed for businesses and organisations to have on display in their shops or organisations so that the public understands what the scheme is all about.
"We are really hoping that the scheme will take off again, as it's such a positive idea for our town."
The schools are too busy to visit every individual business to gauge their interest in supporting the scheme, so they're asking Motueka businesses to please contact one of the four participating schools if they are interested in joining (or continuing to support) the 'Community Gotcha Card'.
The Community Congratulations card is designed to foster positive, respectful behaviour by all students, right up to high schoolers.
"We would love all Motueka businesses to be a part of the initiative and of course there are obvious benefits to businesses and organisations," says Linda. "So we hope that business owners will call their closest school from the list above, for fresh supplies of the Motueka Community Congratulations Card."
