Quilt nets $1142 for Fifeshire Foundation
July 11th, 2014
The local charity, Fifeshire Foundation, has received $1142.00 to bolster its funds as a result of the raffling of a beautiful quilt made by the Crafty Tarts.
The raffle was run leading up to and including the Festival of Craft which was held last weekend in Memorial Hall (See our earlier story).
The quilt, which features a variety of heart shapes (see photo below), was designed by one of the Crafty Tarts group, Jocelyn Lowe, and made by a group of about 10 members for this purpose, along with a larger number of quilts for Operation Cover Up.
The hearts quilt was won by Chris Green. The second prize - a smaller quilt - went to Jan Brown, and the third prize hamper of goods was won by Irene Bisley.
The Fifeshire Foundation has been raising money since 1993 to help people in the Nelson/Tasman area struggling to cope with things like poverty, unemployment, health crises and domestic violence.
It handles on average about $100,000 a year, and all money it raises goes to the people in need because the trust's administrative costs are vovered by local businesses.
