Repeat planned for community Christmas dinner

August 4th, 2014
[by David Armstrong]

The hugely successful community Christmas dinner held last year will be repeated in 2014, with the organisers aiming to keep running it for at least another five years.

The inaugural dinner, held on Christmas Day in Memorial Hall, was a colourful and vibrant event enjoyed by about 230 guests and hosted by around 60 volunteers who gave up their own Christmas afternoon to cook, serve and clean up. (See our story about it.)

It was organised by a committee from several churches, chiefly the St Andrews Uniting Church, and under the support and umbrella of Vision Motueka. This arrangement will continue this year.

Chief organiser, Rankeilor Arnott, said that this year they aim to cater for a full house of 300 people, and will soon be approaching the community for support.

The costs of the first event were covered by several very generous monetary donations as well as many goods and services in kind. The goal of the organising committee now is to make the funding sustainable so that it can continue into a confident future, and not rely too much on the generosity of a few people.

Anyone wanting to express an interest in helping in any way, either as a volunteer on the day, preparing before the day or the donation of goods or feed, can contact Rankeilor on or Sue on .
