Free family fun at Riwaka Market Day
December 4th, 2014
It's a great way to start to the New Year. Put a note in your diary for after the New Year celebrations - the Riwaka Market Day is happening again the day after New Year's Day.
Every year, for close on 40 years, locals and visitors alike enjoy the atmosphere and stalls at the picturesque Riwaka Domain on January 2nd from 9am to 3pm. This year the event falls on a Friday.
The free family-friendly market, run by members of the Motueka Pottery Workshop, features an ever-expanding variety of local pottery, crafts, plants, food, music, clothes and more. (Pictured right, at the 2014 market.)
"The market has become quite a tradition; it's something of a 'must-do' on January the second every year," says Liz Mahoney of the Motueka Pottery Workshop.
"The potters work all year to provide reasonably priced goods for the club stall and they are joined by many talented artisans.
"Every year, the workshop offers boysenberries and cream and an opportunity for children to explore clay play. At the club stall there is the very popular children's lucky dip that features pottery animals.
"All in all, it's a great day out and this year's market is a little special because the workshop has been going for 40 years. The market has been going for most of that time," says Liz.
Members of the Motueka Pottery Workshop based at the Riwaka Domain extend a very warm welcome to come to their annual market and also to anyone wants to learn how to make pottery. Club mornings are held every Tuesday from 9am to 12pm.
