Event list growing for Festival of Lights

May 16th, 2013

Planning for this year's Festival of Lights is now underway, and the leading organiser Our Town Motueka will be supporting community groups with the promotion of their events over the mid-winter period, July 18th - August 18th.

Rather than a short sequence of connected events over a week or even a long weekend, the High Street lights will be strung and lit and OTM will encourage and help promote events which people and community groups stage for the public to brighten the winter.

Confirmed events so far include:

  • Motueka Arts Council's beanie competition
  • Motueka Camera Club's photographic exhibition
  • Motueka High School's concert
  • Roller Disco
  • A family fun bike day
  • the large annual Skydive Boogie event at the aerodrome

Word is around that several other events may be added, including an op shop fashion parade and a mid-winter celebration at the community gardens.

Our Town Motueka co-ordinator Lori Keller says planning for the whole festival is in the intial stages, and more volunteers are needed for the erection of lights as well as promotion of the events.

If anyone has a community event that they would like to include in the Festival of Lights, they should contact Our Town Motueka to provide more details.

Shop and Win
Meanwhile, the Motueka Shop & Win Competition, organised by OTM, will be finishing in just one week, on May 25th, with the winner announced on May 29th.

"As of May 15th, over 8750 entry forms had been issued," says Lori.

"It appears that locals and visitors are keen to win the fantastic $5000 Prize Package of Business Vouchers. From accomodation to legal advice, cafe vouchers to stationary, homewares to a mobile phone, the lucky winner will be receiving some wonderful products."
