New events for even bigger A&P Show

October 26th, 2012
[by David Armstrong]

The schedule of events up for prizes at this year's Motueka A&P Association Show has been expanded yet again, with new categories designed to encourage even wider community participation.

The show, to be held on Sunday December 9th at Marchwood Park, has seen increasing attendances in recent years, despite some held in wet weather, and is now one of the must-do events on the Motueka calendar.

As usual, the competitive events will feature a large equestrian section, along with sections for poultry, working dogs, goats, farm and garden and home cooking. There are plenty of categories for secondary and primary students in most sections.

A variety of crafts and hobbies are also represented in competitions. The obligatory pets section (for children) is always popular, while arty and crafty people can try their hand at floral art, cut flowers, roses, cheeses, pickles, photography or general handcrafts and hobbies.

The new home-brew and home-made drinks section for ales, concentrates, wines and spirits will gain attention too.

One special, new part of the Handcrafts and hobbies section is Operation Cover-up, which provides clothing and blankets for orphans in Romania, Ukraine and Moldava, through "Mission without Borders". All items entered in this section will be donated to Operation Cover-Up. Intending entrants can contact Val Nelson ph. or Faith Wells , if you need advice on what to make, or help obtaining wool, materials etc.

Entry is free, and prizes will be awarded to the Best Group entry, Best School entry, and Individual entries. Suitable items should be made of wool, polar-fleece or similar, and may include any of the following: Beanies, gloves, socks, ponchos, slippers, pyjamas, jerseys, and blankets. Summer dresses are also welcome.

Apart from equestrian events, all the kids classes are free to enter, which organisers hope will attract them to have a go. The full list and schedule of event classes and entry forms are now available online by downloading them from this page (right hand box).

The huge amount of detail and number of events show just how much work the A&P Association organisers have put into this day. Fingers crossed for great weather!
