Our Town Motueka hires new business coordinator

May 3rd, 2012

Our Town Motueka has appointed a business marketing specialist as its business coordinator to take over from Jacqui Taylor and refocus its business support role to provide further benefits to its members.

OTM chairman Howie Timms said he was pleased to annouce that the ex-owner/operator of Kiwi Kayaks, Lori Keller, was chosen from an outstanding set of three short-listed applicants. She has begun working part time this week and will soon ramp up her work to 24 hours a week.

"We are thrilled to have Lori start in this role," said Howie in a letter to OTM members. "Many of you (business owners) will already know her as she has lived in Motueka for seven years and for many years ran a successful tourism business in Riwaka. Most recently she has worked in a senior role with Ngai Tahu Tourism."

He said the OTM committee is looking to refocus the efforts of its coordinator so as to provide tangible economic benefits to its 330 members throughout Motueka. The coordinator role was held by Jacqui Taylor for eight years until she resigned in March.

"The first step was for us to hire a person who had a very specific focus on marketing and promotions," Howie said. "We feel Lori is a great appointment in this regard and will assist us moving forward. Her skills will enable us to improve communication and increase promotion of member products and services to locals and visitors."

Lori will initially be out and about engaging with OTM members and business owners and implementing activities that will increase the retail and service dollars spent in town.

OTM aims to build relationships that benefit Motueka, deliver and support events which stimulate economic activity, foster business development and community cohesion and support town enhancement and heritage improvements.
