Date set for 'Praise Be' programme recording

February 7th, 2011

The 'Praise Be' television programme will be recorded in Motueka at the Uniting Church on the evening of Tuesday 15th March from 6.30pm, and will be shown on a Sunday morning June 5th. (See our earlier story.)

The programme is interdenominational so anyone from any local churches, or anyone who enjoys hymn singing, can take part. Three rehearsals will be undertaken with all participants encouraged to attend them all. The congregation will sing a mixture of 10 hymns for all seasons of the year. Organisers are open to hymn suggestions, and these can be submitted initially to Catherine Dunkley at .

Choirs from Motueka's Uniting Church and St Peter Chanel Church, plus a Tongan Choir, will be taking part, as well as local members of the Motueka/Golden Bay Community Choir. They will be recorded separately on March 16th.

The music leadership for the congregation singing will be shared by John Rimmer and Andrea Hamilton, and accompanying organists will be decided following the final selection of hymns. All linking footage for the programme, presented by Chris Nichol, will be recorded in and around Motueka on the day following the choir recordings.

The likely schedule of rehearsals is for the first congregation rehearsal on Sunday 6th March from 1.00pm to 3.00pm, the second on Thursday 10th March from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, and the third on Sunday 13th March, also from 1.00pm to 3.00pm.

Uniting Church minister Peter Norman stressed the ecumenical (inter-church) nature of the programme. "We encourage input from all denominations and any choral groups in the district, as this will be very much a Motueka community event."

Booklets will be provided with the words and music for the songs that are being sung. The 'Praise Be' programme has been running for 25 years on TVNZ and is the main worship time for many housebound folk.
