Givealittle page begun for swimming pool donations
January 22nd, 2016
[by David Armstrong]
The Motueka Swimming Pool committee have made it easier for people local and distant to make a donation to the pool development project by starting a Givealittle Internet page.
Fundraising for community money to go with contributions to be sought from national funding agencies to pay for covering the Motueka High School pool kicks off in earnest this year.
The fundraising committee will be aiming to raise $400,000 by the end of 2016, to enable Motueka to apply for major national funds.
A number of donations have already been made, with the tally already over $20,000, but with the Givealittle page and approaches to Motueka businesses, the team hopes this total will build steadily as the year progresses.
The Givealittle page can be found at givealittle.co.nz/org/motuekaswimmingpool, or go to the Givealittle homepage and enter "Motueka Swimming Pool" into the search box.
Because the organisation managing the project, Good Sports Motueka Inc, is a registered charity, all donors are sent a receipt which can be used as a 33% tax rebate by people who pay income tax.
Donations of $100 and above will also be acknowledged on donor boards under five categories, to be mounted within the finished pool complex.
The development project is basically to enclose the present high school pool with concrete slab walls and a thermal roof and provide changing and administrative facilities for the general public. (See our earlier story.)
Costings for the basic construction work see the project coming in at a little under $1 million. With TDC not providing any ratepayer funding, the task for the committee is to encourage the Motueka community to get behind the project and ensure the town finally gets a covered swimming pool usable for most if not all of the year.
The bulk of the local funding is expected to come from Motueka businesses, but the fundraising committee will be mounting several large-scale community events during the year to enable the general public to make contributions.
They hope that the Givealittle page will enable people to make donations easily, and will allow people with Motueka connections who now live out of the district to also help with donations.
