'Love Motueka' promotion draws huge global audience
January 18th, 2016
The high-quality video promoting Motueka to the world has proved a huge success, with an audience of nearly 20,000 views recorded in the first 24 hours.
The video (which you can view by clicking on the image above) was launched at 8.00am yesterday and through the day was attracting in excess of 1,000 views per hour.
"Over 940 people have shared it with their friends, giving us a news feed reach of nearly 80,000 people," said Johny O'Donnell at the end of the first 24 hours. Johny led the project to create the video (see our earlier story).
"The conversation (online) is very rich, with over 100 comments from people tagging others, sharing their memories and telling us they're homesick.
"We've even attracted several questions asking where Motueka is and telling us they'd love to visit. We've had comments from people saying let's add this to our itinerary and telling us it's the first they've heard of Motueka.
"I would have been absolutely chuffed with 5,000 views over the next week and here we are tracking to 20,000 by the end of the first day.
"That's an absolutely outstanding result and illustrates huge benefit for Our Town Motueka, for a relatively small investment.
"I'd like to think this solidifies our plans to focus more on marketing in the next year. We can prove real traction with local business owners who are more likely to engage when they see this type of activity."
But there is still a definite need now for local businesses to submit listings to the website's business directory. Johny said that since asking business owners to take the opportunity available, they've had a very slow response.
"There is traffic going to the [Our Town Motueka] website (www.lovemotueka.com) which local businesses could be capitalising on." They can add their listing themselves easily and quickly, with guidance from an online tutorial video at the site.
"It's worth noting that the video is picking up international attention from ex-pats, to travellers who had never heard of Motueka and everyone in between," Johny said.
"The conversation is incredible - the stuff of marketing gold for a town of our size. We're punching well above our weight on this one - even regional tourism boards aren't achieving these kind of results."
Once again Johny pays credit to Bare Kiwi and Lightstyle Web Design for their efforts in creating the video and website.
