OTM seeks answers from its business members

October 19th, 2015

Our Town Motueka is looking to refine and prioritise its goals by circulating a questionnaire asking rate-paying members what they expect from their business promotion organisation.

Over the past decade OTM has been active in business and retail promotions and organising events such as the Starlight Parade in December, but a big turnover in the committeee and a rapidly changing local business environment has led to questions about their main purposes.

With more than half of the 2015-16 committee new to the role and the departure of the paid part-time coordinator Julie Jacobson, the officers want to firm up on OTM's key goals before deciding on a new coordinator and budget.

The committee also says its website and social media profiles are in need of modernisation and becoming more dynamic.

The 16-question survey will be distributed by Vicki Cowling (pictured right) this week and will be regathered about a week later. As well as asking for priority ratings for 16 activities, it will also ask open questions about what OTM could do to be more effective.

A bonus will also be that it will gather business contact details so OTM can update its member database, which has become woefully out of date.

All Motueka businesses pay a special business rate to Tasman District Council (directly or through business lease costs), which is then passed back to OTM to allow it to operate its budget.

The new committee last week also decided to allow "voluntary membership" of $100 per year with voting rights, for anyone who wants to be a member but either operates no business or operates one from home in such a way that they have not been charged the TDC business rate.
