Spring gardening features at Motueka library

October 15th, 2015
[by David Armstrong]

A varied series of classes around the theme of spring gardening is running this week at Motueka library, and it's not too late to join in on one. (See our earlier story here.)

We were there for photos of the results of the tea cup posy workshop held on Tuesday. It was led by Lisa Martion (pictured right) from the Motueka Floral Studio, who gave her time and provided many material for free.

Elegant, artistic, on trend and therapeutic describes the work at that workshop. The seven women created these beautiful arrangements in tea cups from scratch.

That same afternoon Georgia from Dove River Peonies shared her knowledge about the medicinal qualities of the peony root. Infused teas and healing cremes were sampled. This was an informative discussion with another valued local business.

The week of classes kicked off on Monday with practical tips and ideas around composting and healthy home-grown vegetables were shared by Ron Sharp and Grant Douglas.

Later in the day, Lynda Hannah discussed herbs in a permacultural context. Mint, sage and rosemary were the favourites. The libraary has a range of books and magazines on these topics.
