Our Town takes steps to shore up its admin

November 2nd, 2015
[by David Armstrong]

Our Town Motueka has contracted Jacqui Taylor, its paid coordinator up until four years ago, to look after the secretarial and accounting activities for the next three months.

The recently elected OTM committee, made up almost entirely of new members and representing Motueka's business community, has been working to get a clear picture of its current payment obligations and recent communications.

Is also working to address a shortfall in its 2015-16 budget and looking for ways of saving money by putting the microscope over several of its long term automatic payments and other financial commitments.

Jackie was a much respected coordinator for eight years from 2004, and she is ready again to use her broad knowledge of the Motueka business community to help get OTM running smoothly again while the committee focuses on its main purposes.

Over the next several months, the committee will examine its needs for a part-time paid coordinator based on what it sees as the organisation's key goals. The present thinking is that OTM needs someone who will regularly communicate with business owners, but also be a champion promoter of Motueka to the outside world.

In the meantime Julie Jacobson, who was coordinator until she resigned last month, has been contracted for a fixed sum to organise the annual Christmas Starlight Parade, which OTM is obliged to provide to the town.

One large shortfall of the OTM budget was provision for the development of a new, interactive showcase website and promotional video for the town. The amount of money available will satisfy only part of this goal, but should allow a good platform for further development later.

Another area in which the OTM budget is being reviewed is the provision of the summer hanging baskets, which although they have been popular and effective, come with a significant pricetag.

New OTM chairman David Ogilvie says the new committee has been working very hard over the past month or so to come to grips with the challenge ahead, and excellent progress is now being made.
