Art group exhibition among the best ever

January 26th, 2014

The Motueka Art Group's exhibition of paintings held at the Chanel Arts Centre over the past three weeks was among the best patronised in the show's long history.

Visitor numbers were similar to other years, but sales of art works exceeded last year. (See our earlier story here).

Over half the membership exhibited paintings and most had some sales. The most popular artists selling were Linda Hannan and Joan Harkess.

Spokeswoman Marian Painter said Motueka Art Group wanted to thank all those who visited and supported the event.

"The comments in our visitors' book acknowledged the increased standard of work on display. Thanks for that encouragement.

"Our thanks also go to the non-members who give time and effort in helping with the event, in particular Bevan McNabb and Kevin York. Also thanks to those retailers who allowed us to display painting in their shop windows during the three weeks of the art show."

She said the group are now looking forward to starting their weekly meetings on 12th February, "with some challenging painting days to come in preparation for the 2015 exhibition".
