Councils gearing up for Youth Week events
April 24th, 2013
[Press release]
Young people and youth agencies in Nelson-Tasman are gearing up for a week-long programme of youth activities, events, workshops and exhibitions as Youth Week for 2013 is celebrated across the globe and in the Top of the South.
Youth week, from May 4th to May 12th, is about recognising the amazing contributions and achievements of young people in New Zealand. The week inspires us to value, support and affirm the diversity of young people in our society.
The theme for the 2013 Youth Week campaign is 'Live Like a Legend', which encourages young people to draw inspiration from legends of the past to enable them (young people) to be legends of today.
Celebrating success and the success of others as well as respecting yourself, your community and your environment are other important key messages youth week stands for.
Nelson Tasman Youth Workers Collective Coordinator Deanne Kilpatrick is excited with the enthusiasm and support the region has shown towards embracing youth week celebrations.
"There are some fantastic youth events planned for Youth Week, offering a variety of ways young people can be involved."
The official Nelson-Tasman Youth Week Event listing brochure provides a comprehensive schedule of events on offer regionally and can be picked up from Nelson City and Tasman District Council Service Centres and Libraries, or viewed online at www.jamonline.co.nz.
Youth Week events in Motueka
Youth in Motueka can take part in two Youth Week activities - a quiz night and a photographic competition.
The "Live Like A Legend" quiz night will be held on Friday May 10th at 7.00pm. There will be $200 cash prize for the winning team, with a max of four people per team. Also spot prizes for best dressed. For more details, and entry forms, contact Motueka Recreation Centre or the Motueka High School Office.
As part of the quiz night, the winning photos of the photo competition will be announced. The competition is for young photographers who think they can capture the essence of living like a legend in Motueka.
The winning photograph will be decided by public vote during Youth Week and can be viewed and voted on at Motueka High School. A Fujifilm Instax mini camera 7S white is up for grabs for the best pic.
So get snapping! Entries close on Friday 3rd May. Print out an entry form and make sure you check all the conditions of entry before submitting your photo.
