Motueka Pony Club
The club has had its grounds at Marchwood Park for almost 30 years. It has a proud tradition of supporting both its competitive riders and its non-competitive riders. Moutere currently has over 30 riding members, making it one of the biggest pony club branches in the Top of the South.
Our branch is always represented at NMWC teams events and has been a consistent attendant at Springston Trophy, South Island's premier eventing competition. Our branch won this event in the mid 1990s at Kaikoura. Teams have a great time away at events, with our focus always on sportsmanship, team spirit and having fun the most important measures of success.
Motueka is very strong at games, entering 3 teams at most Zone games competitions. All keen riders are included, from beginners up to our riders with many years experience.
Some of these riders and ponies go on to compete at dressage, jumping and eventing, showing just how versatile they are. Our club also has many riders who do not regularly compete. They enjoy the monthly rallies as a chance to learn how to improve their riding and confidence as well as how to look after their ponies, working towards the certificates.
We regularly hold day treks and aim to have a camp each summer. Whatever our members pony or horse is like, Motueka strives to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all. Our main fundraising event for the year is a Mini Show in November, with over 100 entries most years.
We also try to run a variety of smaller events for the region's beginner riders, including gymkhanas and an ODE. Our strong and enthusiastic band of parents and riders mean that Motueka looks strong for the future. Rallies are the second Sunday of each month.
