Who carved that wonderful work at the entrance to the Riwaka Resurgence walk?

Question 6:  From the Motueka River, there is a ditch or channel which one crosses toward the river end of Whakarewa St. Can anyone shed any light on when and why it was constructed?

Answer:  It's a natural channel called Awamate, that was once part of the river course. Over the last century it's been an important channel for overflow when river levels have breached the bank.
