Four discretionary fund applications approved

September 27th, 2017
[by David Armstrong]

Four community organisations were beneficiaries of $500 each from the Motueka Community Board's Discretionary Fund at an extraordinary board meeting last night.

The meeting was held purely for purposes of hearing the four applications, which had been made for the normal board meeting last Tuesday but which was cancelled due to the lack of a quorum.

The Motueka Community Christmas Dinner Committee received $500 to help with expenses in providing a free Christmas Dinner for 250 guests on Christmas Day.

The Christmas Dinner is provided in the Memorial Hall, and the Council will again waive the hall hire fee. The event is mainly for Motueka residents, families, people living on their own and visitors away from their homes who benefit from the free Christmas Dinner.

The Menz Shed received $500 to help funding to provide a publicly accessible defibrillator at the A & P Showgrounds in Marchwood Park.

The Menz Shed use the park as their home base, but everyone using the facilities, working and camping at the A & P Showgrounds in Marchwood Park will benefit from the funding.

The Motueka Pool Fundraising Group has received $500 to help cover the hall hire and advertising for their Festival of Health, Beauty, Fitness/Wellness in the Memorial Hall held on Sunday 24 September.

The festival was a fundraising event for the Motueka Community Pool, and it raised in the vicinity of $2000. Normally such community board funds must be for future events, but because the pre-event board meeting had been cancelled the board agreed that normal rules could be bent in this case.

Vision Motueka was awarded $500 to pay for much of the remaining costs involved in running the upcoming Motueka Volunteers Celebration and Awards event on October 29th. TDC has also contributed $500 for the event.
