Big submission by KMB on Motueka reserves

February 26th, 2017
[by David Armstrong]

Keep Motueka Beautiful has grabbed with both hands the opportunity to influence the future development of Motueka's reserves, with a 37-page submission to TDC's Reserves Management Plan Review for the ward.

The review of which reserve spaces and parks in the Motueka Ward are used for what purposes, and how they could be improved, is the first for 15 years. Submissions close on April 28th. (See our earlier story.)

KMB's submission is a co-ordinated compilation of ideas from several of their members, each with special interests in particular parks.

Standing out among them are sections on:

  • Areas around Port Motueka, including North Street Reserve, Saltwater Baths, Motueka Beach Reserve, George Quay and East Quay
  • The Sanctuary Ponds in Old Wharf Road
  • The Inlet Walkway Reserve (around the inlet between Wharf Road and Old Wharf Road)
  • Decks Reserve and possible future uses
  • Thorps Bush

Other reserves receiving attention include Ledger Goodman Park, Pioneer Park Historic Cemetery, Fearon's Bush (Top 10 Holiday Park), Pethybridge Rose Gardens, Link Park and the Trewavas Street Foreshore Reserve.

You can download and read the full submisson by clicking here.

Submissions will be studied by TDC Parks & Reserves staff and a draft reserve management plan open for public submissions will be released in Juny or July.

Hearings and deliberations on the draft plan will take place in September and October, and the final plan adopted by Council in Decmeber.

is a very comprehensive submission worthy of strong consideration by TDC. Well done.
