Invitations open for annual volunteer celebration
August 22nd, 2017
Invitations have gone out to all known Motueka community groups which rely on volunteers, to take part in the annual "Celebrate Motueka Volunteers" event in October.
And organisers are open to any other nominations of people who do great voluntary work but may not do so under a particular group or club.
The event, hosted by Vision Motueka, involves a tasty, catered afternoon tea along with local entertainers, plus the presentation of some special awards of appreciation to nominated local volunteers for their work over the past year.
It will take place at Memorial Hall on Sunday, October 29th from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. This will be the fourth running of the event.
Emails sent to community groups last week asked them to choose up to four of their volunteers or members to attend the event representing their group.
In addition, 15 certificates of appreciation and special plaques will be presented. Groups are being asked if they think one of their volunteers deserves special recognition this year, and if so to provide details and briefly describe why the person is being nominated.
"It could be because of their length of service, some important project they have worked on recently, their generous attitude to volunteering - or just because they always get stuck in without seeking praise or reward," says David Armstrong, Vision Motueka chairman.
"We understand that there are other people in the community who are deeply involved in voluntary work but who may not be doing it on behalf of or within a known community group.
"We are therefore opening the invitation to the general public to nominate hard-working volunteers working outside conventional groups," David says.
Any nominations can be made by email to firstname.lastname@example.org, and enquiries can be made to David at (03) 528 4046.
"We hope this year's event will be a great celebration with lots of people there who will not only enjoy hearing about the work of others, but also be entertained and get to eat a fabulous afternoon tea spread."
RSVPs to invitations sent to community groups should be sent by September 30th.
