Challenge to increase cycling among workers

January 17th, 2017

Motueka businesses and organisations are being invited to take part in a new nationwide biking programme, the Aotearoa Bike Challenge.

The free programme, being promoted in the local region by Tasman District Council, is a fun, sociable competition for all staff, with no lycra required!

People can cycle anywhere, anytime in February 2017. They only need to ride for 10 minutes or more to participate. That's enough time to bring a big smile to their face, and a great first step in getting them to start riding.

Local businesses will compete against each other to see who can get the most staff to ride a bike during the Challenge. There are six size categories to level the playing fields.

Benefits to your organisation for participating include:
    -  A fun activity for your whole team
    -  Healthier, happier, more productive staff
    -  Less demand for carparks
    -  Helps you achieve your well-being and sustainability objectives.

There are prize incentives including movie ticket vouchers, local restaurant vouchers, bike gear, and more. And it's entirely free for companies and staff.

To take part, organisations and businesses only need to register at www.aotearoa.bike, and encourage staff and co-workers to join the Challenge.

TDC Community Partnerships Officer Lani Evans says, "This exciting region-wide competition is going to give cycling a big push locally, so register today and show your support."
