Motueka South School to be in variable speed zone
March 9th, 2017
A proposal to install a school speed zone on High Street near Motueka South School is being put out for submissions and consultation by the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA).
The proposal would mean State Highway 60 around the school entrance would be a 40km/h variable speed school zone.
Parents, the school principal and nearby residents have expressed concern for the safety of school children along SH60 High Street.
Following an investigation, NZTA agrees that a variable speed zone is warranted and that variable speed zone signs are suitable for this area.
Variable speed limits are displayed when relevant and contribute significantly to improving safety by restricting speeds during times of increased risk; when children are arriving at or leaving school.
It is proposed that the speed zone will operate from 8.25am to 9.00am and from 2.55pm to 3.15pm on school days on High Street, between Courtney Street and King Edward Street. (View the zone details here.) NZTA would like to have the new speed limit in place at the start of the second school term in late April.
They are asking people to consider the proposal and provide any comments by Wednesday 22 March. To do so, please download and use this post back/scan and email form.
