Twilight market to add buzz to Motueka Fridays
February 9th, 2017
[by David Armstrong]
Summer Friday evenings in Motueka will have a greater buzz with the opening of a Summer Twilight Market beside Decks Reserve tomorrow.
The mini version of the Sunday Market is the brainchild of coffee vendor Karen Denyer with the help of Anita Newport, owner of the Parkes Automotive property, whose grounds the initiative will use.
Karen has operated the Susie Q Coffee Cart (photo, right) since October at the back of Parkes Automotive, next door to Community House.
The successful conversion of the normally vacant gravel area into a small outdoor cafe prompted her to take the next step and organise and host the twilight market on Fridays, until daylight savings comes to an end.
Already more than a dozen vendors have signed up for the opening evening, selling local produce, fruits and veges, plants, arts and crafts, and other food stalls.
There will also be live music to help build the buzz, and car boot sales are also encouraged. The opening night is free for stallholders.
Karen says she wants to provide a place for people to relax and unwind on summer evenings, and to provide Motueka residents and visitors another reason to come into town for food, entertainment and shopping on Fridays.
The market will start at 5.30pm and continue "until dark". Anyone wanting to book a stall on the site can phone Karen on 027 565 5505 of visit the Facebook page for "Motueka Twilight Market".
