Community Board by-election voting closes next week
February 8th, 2017
by David Armstrong
There's little more than a week now for voting for the vacant fourth seat on the Motueka Community Board.
Voting closes 12 noon on by-election day, Friday next week, February 17th with the candidates for the important position being Maxwell Clark, Barry Dowler, Matthew Galvin and Lealofi Pouri-Lane.
Voting is by postal vote using the first past the post system. Residents and ratepayers who are registered electors in the Motueka Ward have received voting papers by post.
Maxwell Clark lives in Richmond and was the third-placed of the three candidates for the Tasman District mayoralty this year. He manages the ambulance services provider MediMax.
Until last year's local body elections, Barry Dowler had represented the Motueka Ward for three terms (nine years) on the Tasman District Council, and prior to that four years on the Motueka Community Board.
Matthew Galvin is well known to many as the owner of the Kai Waka Cafe in High Street, and is co-vice chair of the Our Town Motueka business group. He has been particularly active in his campaigning on social media.
Lealofi Pouri-Lane is very active in the community and is part of a talented and busy Samoan Motueka family. She is a parent representative on the Motueka High School Board of Trustees.
