KMB to complete path round Sanctuary Gardens

November 7th, 2017
[by David Armstrong]

Keep Motueka Beautiful (KMB) has raised the money and received the go-ahead from Council to complete the walking path around the Sanctuary Gardens.

The Gardens, a peaceful haven off Old Wharf Road beside the Goodman Park sportsfield, has become increasingly visited in recent years since work began to provide better walking paths, seating and entranceways,

It became a KMB project, supported by TDC, after being handed over by the original developers and guardians, the Motueka Soroptimists, when they disbanded.

Following a request for quotes, KMB has contracted CJ Industries to complete the full-circuit gravelled path for $9,678 + GST. Until now work of this type has been done by KMB stalwart and independent contractor Bob Cooke, but he has now fully retired so costs have risen to full commercial rates.

Holding back a goal of a full-circuit gravelled path has been drainage issues, with the Sanctuary Gardens reserve and the adjacent south-east corner of Goodman Park being subject to frequent surface flooding, especially this past winter.

CJ Industries will also resurface and raise 60 metres of the older path running parallel to Old Wharf Road, that has settled and is subject frequent flooding, at a cost of $1,294 + GST.

KMB members will work with Council to make minor, inexpensive improvements to the overall drainage situation in the area, and work will continue with planting and garden maintenance.
