Guthrie Bowron pledges paint for new swimming pool

Guthrie Bowron Motueka has made the second 'in-kind' donation pledge of materials for the construction of the indoor Motueka Community Swimming Pool.
The family-owned company, which has served Motueka for nearly 50 years, has pledged to the pool fundraising committee to supply all the standard paint for the building's interior and exterior walls and ceilings.
They are supported by Dulux NZ in the donation of the paint.
In September Motueka Flooring Xtra made the first in-kind donation, to supply and install carpet in the pool's reception area and storeroom, and vinyl to the changing rooms, showers and toilets.
Guthrie Bowron co-owners Will and Carmen Snowden (pictured) say they are pleased to be able to help in this way, and that they hope also to be able to organise local painters to do some or all the painting for free when the building is ready.
The donation in retail terms is likely to be equivalent to around $10,000, which will depend of course on the final precise building plans and surface areas.
"The pool project is a community programme, and we are pleased to be able to support the community in this way," says Will.
"A pool that can be used year round will be good for people of all ages, offering low-impact exercise, and great for sports teams.
"It's great for the Motueka community to be able to do stuff like this for ourselves, rather than relying on others to come up with the money."
The pool committee treasurer Sue Clark says this significant donation is a great boost for the fund-raising effort.
"In-kind donations for construction goods and services help us reach our project target, and help enormously when we apply to external funding agencies," she says.
The fundraising team are discussing in-kind donation options with several other local construction firms, in particular for electrical and plumbing work.
