New TDC grants fund open for applications

November 4th, 2016
[TDC press release]

Tasman District Council's new Special Grants Fund, designed to encourage and support significant new events or projects within Tasman District, is now open for applications.

Community Partnerships Coordinator Mike Tasman-Jones says the fund, open for the first time this year, allows the Council to provide a larger financial contribution (upwards of $10,000) than its existing Community Grants fund allows.

"The kind of activities that are eligible for the new fund are new special events that will benefit the community and economy, by extending the range of opportunities and experiences to residents and visitors," Mike says.

"Up to $50,000 will be available each year, providing the Council makes a surplus as a result of extra growth throughout the District. In years where there is no surplus, Special Grants funding will not be offered."

Applications must be assessed by the Community Grants Subcommittee which is made up of a councillor from each ward.

Applications will be accepted throughout the year for funds available in that year. Decisions will be made at Community Grants Subcommittee meetings which occur three times a year. In special cases where a decision on the Special Grant Fund application is urgently required, the Community Grants Subcommittee may assess applications on a one-off basis.

Funding decisions will be made until the Special Grants Fund has been fully allocated for that year. This may occur at any of the Community Grants Subcommittee meetings.

Applications are open until 1 June 2017, or until the funds are fully allocated.

You can read more about the criteria and application process for Special Grants on the Council's website, or contact Community Partnerships Coordinator Mike Tasman Jones on, phone (03) 543 8400.
