Motueka Moments to air weekly with new sponsor
January 29th, 2014
The Fresh FM radio show 'Motueka Moments' has been so well received that it has moved from a fortnightly broadcast to a weekly broadcast this year.
The show has also been granted the backing of new sponsor, Summit Real Estate, Motueka which has agreed to pay for Motueka Moments weekly time slot starting February 19th for at least six months.
Summit Real Estate Manager, Simon Thomas says, "We didn't hesitate to sign on to support this show on Fresh FM. Very glad we were approached, it's a perfect fit for us in the community."
Motueka Moments airs on Wednesday at 1.40pm and replays on Saturday at 4:40pm. The producers and hosts are both Vision Motueka workers, Kahu Geor and David Armstrong. They go week about.
The weekly series premiers today Wednesday, January 29th, with a conversation with Jennifer Doyle, manager of Motueka Riding for the Disabled (RDA), about their work and especially their new construction project, a "Sensory Trail".
Motueka Moments brings conversations to air with people who are keen to improve the vibrancy and strength of Motueka. Each 15-minute show features one guest, either someone associated with a Vision Motueka project, or someone from a different community project or group.
Kahu and David have discovered there's an endless supply of passionate and engaged volunteers in the town.
Both Kahu and David were newcomers to studio broadcasting when they were approached in mid-2013 by Fresh FM Programme Director Jo Ann Firestone.
Jo Ann was familiar with the Motueka Online website and believed there was a lot going on in the region that could be translated into a radio programme.
"Kahu and I were pretty apprehensive at first," says David. "We had to learn how to operate the sound panel and music gear at the Motueka Community House studio, and synchronise with the Nelson base station.
"But after a few shows we felt we knew enough to make a go of it. And the interesting people we've interviewed so far have made that an easier process."
That's borne out by Jo Ann, who says that they have both adjusted well to the required techniques. "I'm so pleased to have David and Kahu on Fresh FM. They made time to learn and practice and from the start they've brought thoughtful, interesting and very local conversations to the wider community. It's perfect community radio," she says.
Previously aired Motueka Moments are available on iTunes, Motueka Online, the Vision Motueka website, Vision Motueka's Facebook page, and the 'Downloads' section of www.freshfm.net.
Fresh FM broadcasts on 104.8FM in Nelson/Tasman, 95.0FM in eastern Golden Bay and streams live via their website.
