Entries open for beanie and dog coat competition

May 27th, 2014

Following the success last year of Motueka Arts Council's winter beanie making competition, this year it has been extended to include warm coats for our canine friends.

The 'Make a Beanie and/or Dog Coat Competition' is part of the town's winter activities, along with the Arts Council's popular Winter Workshop series.

Last year there were 44 beanies entered, made by 22 crafts people, with a great variety of styles and colours. (See our story here.)

"For 2014 we have added the dog coats to the competition, plus a section for the beanie and dog coat as a matching pair," says Arts Council chair Shirley Frater. "The wearers will look very smart when out walking their pets."

With any materials able to be used for the article, this is an opportunity for knitters, felters, weavers, crocheters, sewers and embellishers to express their creativity.

Categories are:
Beanie only: Most colourful, Story book or Film character, Traditional using only wool, Made by a student under 14 years, and Recycled materials.
Dog Coat only: Most colourful, Recycled materials, and Traditional using only wool.

The beanies and dog coats will be displayed at the start of August in business windows in High Street for two weeks.
