Motueka dodges another major storm bullet
April 19th, 2014
Our first 1-in-100 year rainstorm for 2014 (wry joke intended) has finally eased but not without some damage to some places in Motueka, particularly the Tasman Bay beachfront.
In particular, the walking and cycle trail path between the Raumanuka Reserve and the golf course, at the head of the sandspit, will need major repair yet again (see first photo below).
But given the amount of damage wrought by Cyclone Ita in other parts of New Zealand, and even in our neoghbouring Golden Bay and Nelson areas, Motueka people can be thankful that we dodged yet another bullet.
The river stopbanks and the bridge piers survived yet again, although they were under scrutiny from mid-Friday until this morning.
Here are some photos taken by several people of local storm damage. If you have any you would like to add to these, please , preferably with a caption.
