Children to be celebrated again in Motueka
March 19th, 2014
Children's Day will be celebrated again this year with a big family event at Parklands School Grounds on Sunday 30th March from 10.30am to 1.30pm.
Parklands School swimming pool and grounds will be open to families, and the organisers - Motueka Family Service Centre in partnership with Strengthening Families - will put on a pool party, puppet show, a variety of games, activities for toddlers, children and young people, sausage sizzle and competitions with great prizes.
There will be some activities that happen at specific times like the puppet shows, music performance, cricket, ki o rahi and the Lads + Dads competition.
A free sausage sizzle is available from noon. The swimming pool, nail painting, giant games and the activity trailer are happening during the whole event.
The only rule is that all children must be accompanied by their parents or carers. And if the weather is wet the event will be cancelled on the day.
The event sponsors and supporters include Nelson Building Society, House of Travel, Tasman District Council, Te Awhina Marae, Parklands School, Kidpower, the Nelson Cricket Association, and the White Ribbon team.
The White Ribbon team, led by Carl Chapman, have organised a 'Lads and Dads' competition. There will be a series of games that Lads and Dads together have to win and a performance that will be judged.
Each of the Lads + Dads entrants will be given State Cinema vouchers. The winners of this competition will receive an overnight wilderness adventure in Abel Tasman National Park Water Taxi voucher.
A Day Pack has been generously donated by Wilsons and Anchorage Hut vouchers by the Department of Conservation. The White Ribbon Kaupapa is non-violence towards women and children.
Programme:
11am, 12 noon and 1pm: Kidpower Puppet Show (each performance lasts 15 minutes)
11am: Lads + Dads competition
11am - 11.45am: Music by Levity Beet
