Sculpture marks ATET's 25th anniversary

February 18th, 2014
[Press release]

Staff, students and trustees past and present gathered at The Abel Tasman Educational Trust yesterday to witness the unveiling of a sculpture commissioned to mark the 25th anniversary of ATET.

Contemporary carver Stuart Kere, was commissioned to create a suitable monument to mark the occasion and responded by creating a stunning 4m-high carved totem, crafted from Oamaru stone and rimu which sits at the entrance to ATET at 420 Main Road, Riwaka

After a few words from ATET chairperson Carol Gowan, who has been involved with ATET since its inception, the Rev Gladys Taingahue blessed and dedicated the carving entitled "The Past, The Present and The Yet to be".

Stuart Kere, who worked at ATET for many years, shared his belief that the work signified not only his own personal life journey but also the change in direction offered to the many hundreds of people who have accessed ATET's training services over the last quarter century.

ATET Manager Andrew Bridge thanked Stuart for his contribution, which he feels will quickly become a local landmark and a suitable visual commemoration of the work ATET does in the community.
