Five High Street trees for the chop
July 14th, 2014
[by David Armstrong]
Five golden elm trees near the High Street intersection with Pah and Greenwood streets will be removed in August as part of Council's street tree renewal programme.
Business operators located near the trees are being advised that work of tree and stump removal will be done in the early morning to minimise impact on them.
The trees marked for removal are tagged with a red cross on the aerial view, right.
The reasoning behind the decision was set out in a report to the Motueka Community Board in May (see our story here).
Council's horticultural officer Kathy Curnow says they intend to replace the trees with Parrotia persica (the same trees that are outside the Guthrie Bowron building), in locations which Council's engineers say will "best suit the traffic environment".
