Music quiz night pays off music network website
May 12th, 2014
Hotel Motueka was near full house last Saturday night as music enthusiasts and fun seekers battled it out for prizes at the Music Pub Quiz, raising money for the Motueka Music Network.
Fourteen teams with an average of six people per team took part, a far greater number than the number usually at the hotel's regular quiz nights.
Together they raised $420 that will enable the Music Network to finally pay off the cost of building the website, www.motuekamusic.org.nz, which is the basis of the network's operation.
The website was designed and created by local specialist Andre Ismael, of Lightstyle, for Vision Motueka, which is the umbrella organisation for running the music network.
The two raffle prizes were donated by New World Motueka, while the three quiz prizes were provided by Hotel Motueka, Golden Bear Brewing, Beggs Music and committee members.
As expected, teams of music buffs took out the three main prizes, but the other teams all had a fun night and competed strongly. Photos below (courtesy of Hotel Motueka) show the winning and second-placed teams.
The Motueka Music Network aims to bring together musicians, music teachers, music venues and people interested in listening to and learning music. It's events calendar is updated at least weekly and is the best guide in town as to what performances are coming up.
In addition, it has page profiles of most of Motueka's music teachers and performers. It's ultimate goal is to promote the Motueka music scene and help new musicians and pupils find what they're looking for.
Now that the website is paid off, the next project is likely to be to set up a funding mechanism that will enable children whose parents cannot afford music lessons to have their tuition subsidised.
The music network committee hope that the music quiz night could be an annual event, and they will also be working on other events such as a "meet the music teacher" workshop and talent quests.
