Motueka to host Community & Whanau gathering
March 10th, 2014
Motueka's Community & Whanau group will host a hui of all such groups in the region, following a successful similar event last year.
The Combined Regional Community & Whanau gathering will be held at the St Thomas's Anglican Church on Thursday 10th April from 9.30am to 2.00pm.
Members of similar groups from Nelson, Richmond, Waimea, Motueka and Golden Bay districts and beyond will attend, and anyone involved in community activities and events in the Nelson Tasman region is welcome to join in.
Following the welcome and karakia, attendees will spend about an hour introducing themselves and the organisations they represent or work for.
Then the guest speaker, Harold Wetera, Director Maori Health & Whanau Ora at Nelson Marlborough District Health Board will talk on the subject 'Working collaboratively with Maori - a practical perspective'.
Before finishing with a shared lunch, attendees will visit 'tables of special interest', which will represent five areas of social work: Youth, Family, Community, Older People and Mental Health. But organisers say the focus will not be only on these areas.
"We realise that this won't cover all areas of expertise in the region. If you interest is outside these areas, please still come as your contribution is valuable and there will be plenty of opportunities for one to one networking."
