Cycle trail gets more government funding
December 5th, 2014
[TDC press release]
The Tasman Great Taste Trail maintains its place as one of the country's premier cycle trails in the latest round of funding from the Government.
The $212,500 the trail received from the Government today reiterates its premium position in the nationwide network, said Tasman Mayor Richard Kempthorne.
The successful application to the 'dollar for dollar fund' was put together jointly by the Tasman District Council and the Nelson Tasman Cycle Trust.
There will be 10 projects funded from the total of $425,000, with the majority focused on increasing safety, quality and maintenance of the Trail.
"The Tasman Great Taste Trail has proven to be one of the great investments this Council has made. With the assistance of the Trust the trail is providing a drawcard for tourists who are enjoying the ability to circle Tasman Bay in increasing numbers.
"As a local asset it is also proving successful as the greatest number of riders are local residents taking to the trail in ever increasing numbers.
"The contribution by the Government, matched by ratepayers and the Trust, can only improve the Trail's place as a jewel in the District's crown," said Mayor Kempthorne.
