Outstanding service awards for unsung heroes

June 4th, 2014
[TDC press release]

Tasman District Council is calling for nominations of long-term "unsung heroes" to receive this year's Outstanding Community Service Awards.

There are a host of people throughout our District who work quietly away, without pay and with precious little recognition, to make our communities better places to live.

Without fuss or fanfare they undertake all manner of good work on behalf of neighbours, friends, schools, clubs, churches and service organisations. Their commitment is unstinting; their generosity and dedication is unquestionable.

TDC's Outstanding Community Service Awards are a way of giving some well-deserved recognition to these unsung heroes of our communities.

"It gives us an opportunity to make sure they are rewarded with the thanks they deserve for the long-term outstanding service they have given," says Mayor Richard Kempthorne.

"These annual awards allow us to formally acknowledge individuals who have worked unselfishly on behalf of their communities in a variety of activities for 20 years or more."

Individuals or groups deserving recognition for their hard work can be nominated for an Outstanding Community Service Award.

Each year Tasman District Council calls for nominations from the public for the community awards. Nominees must be residents of Tasman District to qualify.

Nomination forms are available from all Council Service Centres and libraries and give an outline of the type of information needed for a successful nomination. Please use them when nominating someone for an award and be sure to post or deliver them to:

Tara Fifield
Executive Assistant
Tasman District Council, Private Bag 4
Richmond 7050

Nominations must be received by the last working day of June each year.

Additional information attached to the nomination form is welcomes. Fire Service personnel must have 35 years' service to be eligible.

After the closing date, a committee comprising the Mayor and other members of the Council will evaluate the nominations received, with recipients announced in July. All nominations are dealt with confidentially.
