Meeting to explain covenants on natural areas

August 1st, 2014

Farmers and lifestyle block owners interested conservation of parts of their properties can learn about the process of covenanting at an upcoming forum.

The Marlborough and Nelson-Tasman representative of QEII National Trust, Tom Stein, will lead a discussion on ways of protecting natural areas on private land, at a Waimea Inlet Forum discussion evening on Wednesday 13th August at the Richmond Library starting at 7.30pm.

"One of the key ways to protect your natural area is to legally protect it through covenanting," says a spokesperson for the Waimea Inlet Forum.

"Join us to find out how a Covenant might be a valuable way of protecting your restoration, regenerating hillside, wetland or forest block.

"Threatened habitats occur mainly on the lowlands on private land, where even small remnants are important. QEII National Trust can help private landowners protect special natural and cultural features on their land with open space covenants.

"Find out what it means to have a covenant, the pros and cons. Even if you don't have land suitable for a covenant, you are welcome to come and hear what the Trust has been doing and enjoy Tom's pictures from around Nelson/Tasman and nationally.
